No Couch Potatoes…

Recently at church the pastor shared about reaching others for Christ. I was drifting in and out of his message and he said something that woke me up! He was speaking out of Matthew 28:20 (The Great Commission) and said there should be no couch potatoes as Christians. We need to get up and GO reach others for Christ. So many times in our Christian walk we sit back for far to many reasons. Truth be told it is either the fear of man, laziness, or a cold heart that keeps us from sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.

What is it for you that keeps you on the couch spiritual? Whatever it is, get over and get up and get after it for the sake of the kingdom. If you want to remain a couch potato socially or athletically go for it, but NEVER spiritually. God will bless you for sharing with others about HIM!

Check out this new section called God Became Real…You can read my brief story how God changed my heart and I would love to hear yours as well.

Here’s what others are saying about SportsDevo.com:

  • Drew Neitzel, Professional Basketball Player (Germany) and former Michigan State All-American
“Jere has been a friend of mine since I was in high school, but even more than a friend he has been a mentor. He has reached out to me and helped me become a better Christian man both on and off the court. Through numerous conversations and literature he has sent me over the years, including his daily devotionals for athletes, I have been truly inspired by Jere and his passion to help others with their relationship with Christ.”
  • Jill Ewert, Editor of Sharing The Victory, FCA’s monthly sports magazine
“Jere Johnson is truly gifted at taking life and sports situations and turning them into high-impact devotions. He’s been a key part of our FCA devotion ministry ever since it started!”
  • Randy Rennicke, former MLB player
“Although I have never met Jere in person, he and I have become very close friends through his devotions. Think about that; you never have met someone and yet, he profoundly influences you enough to call him a dear friend! Let me try to briefly explain.
Over three years ago I read a devotion Jere wrote. I sent an e-mail telling him how wonderfully the Holy Spirit moved me to contact him and tell him the influence his words had on me. Since that time, I have shared his devotions to many friends and all of my immediate family. We regularly use his inspirational teachings in our family devotions and we all learn from them and are motivated by them to try to become better Christians. My wonderful wife of twenty-six years, and all of our five children ranging in age from twenty-three to ten have benefited from Jere’s teachings. In other words, Jere utilizes scripture to inspire and inform all age groups and all levels of Christian maturity.
We all go through trying times and wonderful times as we have our journey here on earth. Jere has helped me personally navigate through athletic trials and successes as a parent and as a participant; he has helped me through difficult times in a forced career change; he has helped me be a better FCA huddle leader, and he has helped me be a better parent and husband. He has done so without even knowing how his words minister to all who read his message because he is such a dedicated servant and utilizes his gifts as an encouragement and help to others.
I hope you enjoy his wisdom and witness through his powerful devotions as much as myself and my family have benefited from them. I am so very grateful that Jere Johnson is a part of God’s wonderful plan for my life, FCA’s life, and for your life.”
  • Jason Wright, NFL Running Back, Cleveland Browns
Jere was not only the primary hand that led me to Christ, but continues to serve as a mentor as I grow in my relationship with our beautiful Savior. I am so excited that the wisdom with which he has me parented me in the things of God will now be available to a much wider audience. Anyone who reads these devotionals will no doubt find God’s powerful truth tucked away inside.
